Description

These 8 Minute Airfryer Cauliflower and Cheese Tots are a perfect first food for baby-led weaning. Made with simple, wholesome ingredients like steamed cauliflower, oat flour, mild cheddar cheese, and a touch of garlic, these tots are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are easy to prepare, cook quickly in the air fryer, and make a nutritious and tasty snack or meal for little ones and the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

Cauliflower Mixture

  • 1 head cauliflower, steamed and finely chopped (with liquid squeezed out)
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 cup oat flour (blended oats)
  • 1/2 cup mild cheddar cheese (or goat cheese)
  • 1 egg
  • Black pepper to season, to taste

To Cook

  • Drizzle of olive oil

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a bowl, add the finely chopped steamed cauliflower, garlic granules, oat flour, cheese, egg, and black pepper. Use a spoon to stir all ingredients together thoroughly until the mixture is fully combined and holds together well.
  2. Shape the Tots: Take a tablespoonful of the cauliflower mixture and use your hands to shape it into small round tots or oval tot shapes. Place each shaped tot onto a clean plate, arranging them so they don’t touch.
  3. Add Olive Oil: Lightly drizzle a very small amount of olive oil over the shaped tots to help them crisp up during cooking.
  4. Air Fry the Tots: Preheat your air fryer to 200ºC (392ºF). Place the tots in the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until they are golden and crisp on the outside.
  5. Serve: Once cooked, serve the cauliflower and cheese tots warm with a dip of your choice and a side of fresh strawberries for a balanced and tasty meal for babies practicing self-feeding.

Notes

  • Make sure to squeeze out all excess liquid from the steamed cauliflower to ensure the tots hold their shape.
  • You can substitute the mild cheddar cheese with goat cheese if preferred for a milder or tangier flavor.
  • Adjust the cooking time slightly depending on your air fryer model to ensure perfect crispiness without burning.
  • Serve these tots as a finger food suitable for baby-led weaning, ensuring pieces are appropriately sized for the baby’s ability.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; reheat in the air fryer for best texture.
