Description

Crispy and flavorful Air Fryer Fried Pickles are a perfect snack or appetizer. Coated with a seasoned flour mixture, dipped in egg, and coated with crunchy panko breadcrumbs, these pickles are air fried to golden perfection for a healthier twist on a classic Southern favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Pickles

  • 16 oz bread and butter pickle chips or dill slices

Coating

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika

Other

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Cooking oil spray (for air fryer basket and pickles)

Instructions

  1. Dry the Pickles: Drain the pickle chips thoroughly and pat dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps the coating adhere better and results in a crispier finish.
  2. Prepare the Coating Bowls: In one bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, garlic salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. In a second bowl, beat the egg. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  3. Bread the Pickles: Working in small batches, dredge each pickle slice first in the seasoned flour mixture, then dip into the beaten egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to ensure the crumbs stick well.
  4. Prepare the Air Fryer: Spray the air fryer basket or grate with cooking oil spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the breaded pickle slices in a single layer without overlapping. Lightly spray the tops of the coated pickles with cooking oil spray to aid crisping.
  5. Air Fry the Pickles: Set the air fryer to 385°F (196°C) and cook the pickles for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove carefully and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Ensure the pickles are very dry before coating to achieve maximum crispiness.
  • Cook the pickles in batches to avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket, which can prevent even crisping.
  • Use bread and butter pickles for a sweeter flavor, or dill slices for a tangier bite.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture, as fried pickles can lose crispiness once cooled.
  • Feel free to customize seasoning in the flour mixture to suit your taste preferences.
