Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
Additional
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
Instructions
- Preheat and Melt Butter: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place the ½ cup of unsalted butter in an 8×8-inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt the butter for about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt until well combined.
- Add Milk: Pour in 1½ cups of whole milk to the dry ingredients and stir gently just until the mixture comes together. Avoid overmixing to keep the biscuits light and tender.
- Fold in Blueberries: Gently fold 1 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries into the batter, taking care not to crush them and overwork the dough.
- Combine with Melted Butter: Remove the baking dish with the melted butter from the oven and pour the blueberry biscuit dough into it. Spread the dough evenly using a spatula so it’s distributed uniformly across the dish.
- Score the Dough: Using a knife, score the dough into 9 even squares. This will make it easier to cut and serve after baking.
- Bake: Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 25 to 28 minutes, or until they turn golden brown on top.
- Cool and Serve: Let the biscuits cool for about 5 minutes in the dish before serving to allow the butter to set slightly and avoid burning your mouth.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen blueberries; if using frozen, do not thaw before folding them into the batter to prevent color bleed and excess moisture.
- Scoring the dough before baking helps achieve uniform biscuit pieces and makes slicing easier after baking.
- The melted butter in the baking dish helps create a crispy, buttery crust on the bottom and edges of the biscuits.
- For extra flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon to the batter.
- Serve warm for best taste and texture, optionally with additional butter or honey.
