Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Cheese
- 1 loaf French or Italian Bread (Day-old bread preferred)
- 8 oz Provolone Cheese (alternatives include mozzarella or American cheese)
- 2 tbsp Melted Butter (for brushing before serving)
Steak and Vegetables
- 1 lb Ribeye Steak (can substitute with deli roast beef or rotisserie chicken)
- 1 medium Onion (sliced, can use red or yellow)
- 1 medium Bell Pepper (sliced, can substitute with jalapeños)
- 2 cloves Garlic (minced, fresh garlic preferred)
Seasonings and Oils
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce (soy sauce can be a substitute)
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Black Pepper
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil or Butter (for sautéing)
- 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley (chopped)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the stuffed bread later.
- Prepare the Bread: Slice off the top crust of the loaf and carefully hollow out the center, creating a cavity to hold the savory filling while leaving the bread walls intact.
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and bell peppers and sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened and fragrant.
- Add Garlic and Steak: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about one minute. Then add the sliced ribeye steak, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix and cook until everything is heated through and flavors combine.
- Assemble the Bread: Brush the inside of the hollowed bread with melted butter. Layer half of the provolone cheese at the bottom of the bread cavity, then spoon in the steak and vegetable mixture, and top with the remaining cheese.
- Bake: Place the assembled bread on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the cheese melts, becomes bubbly, and the bread edges are slightly toasted.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven, brush the edges with additional melted butter, and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top for garnish. Slice and serve warm.
Notes
- Using day-old bread helps it hold up better to the filling without becoming soggy.
- You can substitute ribeye steak with deli roast beef or rotisserie chicken for convenience or different flavor profiles.
- Feel free to adjust the vegetables and cheese to suit your taste preferences.
- For extra garlic flavor, you can rub the interior of the bread with a cut clove of garlic before layering the filling.
- Leftover stuffed bread can be reheated in the oven to restore crispness.
