Description

This Cinnamon Roll French Toast Casserole is a decadent and easy breakfast treat that combines soft, gooey cinnamon rolls with the rich custard flavors of classic French toast. Perfect for brunch or a special occasion, this dish is baked to golden perfection, then topped with sweet icing for a crowd-pleasing start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing

Custard Mixture

  • 6 large eggs
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.25 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cut Cinnamon Rolls. Open the cinnamon roll tubes and cut each roll into quarters. Spread the cinnamon roll pieces evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  3. Mix Custard. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and maple syrup until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Soak Cinnamon Rolls. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish. Gently press the rolls to help them absorb the custard.
  5. Rest Mixture. Allow the casserole to sit for 10 minutes so the cinnamon rolls soak up the custard mixture fully.
  6. Bake Covered. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to cook the custard through.
  7. Bake Uncovered. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set.
  8. Cool and Serve. Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes, then drizzle the included cinnamon roll icing over the top and serve warm for a delicious breakfast treat.

Notes

  • Use refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing included for the easiest preparation.
  • Allowing the casserole to soak before baking ensures a custardy, tender texture.
  • Covering with foil initially prevents the top from over-browning while the custard sets.
  • Customize sweetness by adjusting the maple syrup amount to taste.
  • Serve with fresh fruit or a dusting of powdered sugar for extra flair.
