Description

Crispy Homemade Wontons are a delightful appetizer featuring seasoned ground meat wrapped in delicate wonton wrappers and fried to golden perfection. Perfectly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside, these wontons make an irresistible snack or party treat, served best with savory dipping sauces.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1/2 lb ground meat (your choice)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped water chestnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Wontons

  • 30 wonton wrappers

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Water (for sealing wontons)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated fresh ginger, minced garlic, water chestnuts (if using), salt, and white pepper. Mix thoroughly to blend all ingredients evenly.
  2. Fill wonton wrappers: Place one wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the filling into the center of the wrapper.
  3. Seal the wontons: Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water using your finger, fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle, press out any air pockets, and seal edges tightly. For a traditional look, bring the opposite corners together and seal them with water.
  4. Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep pan or wok and heat it to 350°F (175°C), ensuring it’s hot enough for frying.
  5. Fry the wontons: Carefully place wontons in the hot oil in batches, frying them for 2 to 3 minutes while turning occasionally until they are golden brown and crisp on all sides.
  6. Drain the wontons: Remove the fried wontons using a slotted spoon, and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  7. Serve: Serve the wontons hot with soy sauce, sweet chili sauce, or your favorite dipping sauce for an enjoyable appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground pork, chicken, beef, or turkey based on preference.
  • Water chestnuts add a nice crunch but can be omitted if unavailable.
  • Ensure oil temperature is maintained at 350°F for perfect crispiness without sogginess.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to avoid temperature drops in the oil.
  • Wontons can be prepared ahead and frozen before frying for convenience.
