Description

This Hawaiian Style Garlic Shrimp recipe features succulent large shrimp cooked in a rich, buttery garlic sauce with a hint of lemon and traditional Hawaiian sea salt. Ready in just 15 minutes, it’s a quick and flavorful dish perfect served over rice for a satisfying meal with a tropical flair.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Seasoning

  • 1 pound large uncooked shrimp
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse Hawaiian sea salt (or regular coarse sea salt)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

Sauce

  • 5 Tablespoons olive oil (divided)
  • 4 Tablespoons salted butter (divided)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Juice from half of a large lemon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the garlic butter sauce: In a large skillet over medium-low heat, add 4 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of salted butter. Let the butter melt while gently stirring. Add the minced garlic and sautรฉ for about 1 minute until it becomes fragrant and slightly caramelized.
  2. Add seasonings and remaining fats: Pour in the lemon juice, coarse Hawaiian sea salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir to combine. Then add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Continue to cook slowly for about 2 minutes to let the sauce develop flavor.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Carefully add the uncooked shrimp to the skillet and cook for approximately 2 minutes on each side. The shrimp is done when it turns an orange-pink color and is opaque. Avoid overcooking as shrimp cooks rapidly.
  4. Serve: Serve the garlic shrimp hot, spoon the flavorful sauce over the shrimp, and place over cooked rice for a complete Hawaiian-inspired meal. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Use large shrimp for best texture and flavor.
  • Coarse Hawaiian sea salt enhances the authenticity but can be substituted with regular coarse sea salt.
  • Do not overcook shrimp to avoid rubbery texture; shrimp cooks very fast.
  • Serving over white or brown rice complements the rich sauce perfectly.
  • For extra heat, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes.
