Description

These Mini Jalapeno Popper Egg Rolls offer a crispy and cheesy appetizer packed with creamy jalapeno popper filling wrapped in crispy wonton wrappers, perfect for sharing at parties or as a tasty snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4-6 strips bacon, cooked and chopped
  • 3-5 jalapenos, seeded and diced
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Wrapper and Frying

  • Around 22 wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, diced jalapenos, sliced green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  2. Assemble Egg Rolls: Lay a wonton wrapper flat on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of the wrapper.
  3. Wrap Egg Rolls: Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with water. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides, and roll up tightly like a burrito. Seal the edges firmly with water to prevent the filling from leaking during frying.
  4. Repeat Assembly: Repeat the wrapping process with the remaining wonton wrappers and filling until all are assembled.
  5. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C) to ensure crispy, even cooking.
  6. Fry Egg Rolls: Fry the egg rolls in batches, carefully turning occasionally, for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain and Serve: Remove egg rolls from the oil and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as ranch dressing or sweet chili sauce.

Notes

  • Make sure to seed the jalapenos thoroughly to reduce heat if desired.
  • Do not overfill the wonton wrappers to prevent them from bursting during frying.
  • Use fresh vegetable oil heated to the proper temperature to achieve the best crispiness.
  • These egg rolls can be kept warm in a low oven while frying batches.
  • For a healthier option, try baking them at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, turning halfway through.
