Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 medium-sized bunch of kale, washed and dried very well
- 2 tsp olive oil
- A pinch or two of sea salt
- A pinch of garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure a slow, even baking for crispy kale chips.
- Prepare Kale: Wash and dry the kale thoroughly. Any moisture will cause sogginess. Remove the leaves from the stems and tear into chip-sized pieces.
- Arrange Kale: Lay the kale pieces evenly on an unlined baking sheet, avoiding overcrowding to ensure proper crisping.
- Season Kale: Drizzle olive oil evenly over the kale and gently massage it into the leaves, making sure to coat all surfaces without adding too much oil. Sprinkle sea salt and garlic powder on top.
- Bake First Phase: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes to start crisping the kale.
- Rotate and Flip: Carefully rotate the pan and flip any kale pieces that look crispy. Bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, watching closely during the last 7-8 minutes to avoid burning.
- Cool and Crisp: Remove the kale chips from the oven and leave them on the baking sheet for 3-5 minutes to crisp up fully before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the kale leaves are completely dry before baking to avoid soggy chips.
- Do not use too much oil; 2 teaspoons is enough to get a crisp texture without excess moisture.
- Keep a close eye on the kale during the last few minutes of baking to prevent burning, as kale chips can go from crispy to burnt quickly.
- Massaging the oil into the kale helps the seasoning stick and encourages even baking.
