Ingredients
Scale
For the Burgers
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
For the Toppings
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded provolone cheese
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
Other
- 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
- 4 hamburger buns
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions & Peppers: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and green bell peppers, season with salt and black pepper, and cook them, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and caramelized, about 8 to 10 minutes. Once done, remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Patties: In a medium bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until incorporated, then divide the mixture into four equal portions and form each into a patty.
- Cook the Patties: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil and heat over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for around 5 minutes on each side until they reach your preferred level of doneness.
- Melt the Cheese: During the last minute of cooking, evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and provolone cheeses on top of each patty. Cover the skillet with a lid to create steam and help the cheese melt thoroughly.
- Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the hamburger buns either in a toaster, oven, or on a dry skillet until golden brown for added texture and flavor.
- Assemble the Burgers: Place each cheesy patty on the toasted buns and generously top with the caramelized onions and bell peppers.
- Serve & Enjoy: Serve your Philly Cheese Steak Burgers immediately while hot and the cheese is gooey for the best experience.
Notes
- For extra authenticity, you can add sliced mushrooms to the caramelized onions and peppers if desired.
- If you prefer a sharper cheese flavor, substitute provolone with sharp cheddar or American cheese.
- Make sure not to overwork the ground beef when forming patties to keep them tender and juicy.
- You can adjust cooking time for patties depending on your preferred level of doneness (medium-rare to well-done).
- Leftover patties can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
