Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)
Vegetables
- 1 medium onion (diced)
- 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)
- Fresh parsley (finely chopped, for garnish)
- Green onion (sliced, for garnish)
Dairy
- 1 tbsp butter
- 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces, or 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)
Seasonings
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set it aside to be used later.
- Sauté Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until it becomes lightly caramelized. Then add the chopped green bell pepper, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Mix Cheese Base: While the vegetables are cooking, place the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese into a medium-sized bowl. Stir together until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined.
- Add Roast Beef and Seasonings: Add the chopped roast beef deli meat, salt, black pepper, and the cooked onions and peppers to the cheese mixture. Stir everything together until well combined. Optionally, you can reserve 1 tablespoon of the roast beef and cooked vegetables for garnish.
- Assemble the Dip: Spread the dip evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. If you saved some beef and veggies for garnish, sprinkle them evenly over the top of the dip.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2-3 minutes to lightly brown the top.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven, garnish with freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.
Notes
- Using roast beef deli meat makes this recipe quick and easy, but you can substitute thinly sliced ribeye steak if you prefer a more authentic Philly cheesesteak taste.
- For best results, use room temperature cream cheese to ensure a smooth dip mixture.
- You can customize the cheese blend by mixing mozzarella with provolone or Swiss cheese based on your preference.
- Serve with crusty bread, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks for a crowd-pleasing appetizer.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
