Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy, and flavorful appetizer inspired by the classic sandwich. Featuring tender roast beef, sautéed onions and bell peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone cheeses, this dip is baked until hot and bubbly, making it perfect for game day or parties.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)
  • Fresh parsley (finely chopped, for garnish)
  • Green onion (sliced, for garnish)

Dairy

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces, or 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)

Seasonings

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set it aside to be used later.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until it becomes lightly caramelized. Then add the chopped green bell pepper, cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. Mix Cheese Base: While the vegetables are cooking, place the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese into a medium-sized bowl. Stir together until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined.
  4. Add Roast Beef and Seasonings: Add the chopped roast beef deli meat, salt, black pepper, and the cooked onions and peppers to the cheese mixture. Stir everything together until well combined. Optionally, you can reserve 1 tablespoon of the roast beef and cooked vegetables for garnish.
  5. Assemble the Dip: Spread the dip evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. If you saved some beef and veggies for garnish, sprinkle them evenly over the top of the dip.
  6. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2-3 minutes to lightly brown the top.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven, garnish with freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping.

Notes

  • Using roast beef deli meat makes this recipe quick and easy, but you can substitute thinly sliced ribeye steak if you prefer a more authentic Philly cheesesteak taste.
  • For best results, use room temperature cream cheese to ensure a smooth dip mixture.
  • You can customize the cheese blend by mixing mozzarella with provolone or Swiss cheese based on your preference.
  • Serve with crusty bread, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetable sticks for a crowd-pleasing appetizer.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
