Description

A delicious and simple Puff Pastry Apple Tart featuring thinly sliced spiced apples atop flaky puff pastry, baked to golden perfection and finished with a touch of honey for extra sweetness. Perfect for an elegant dessert or a sweet snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 3 small/medium apples, peeled and sliced thin

Pastry and Topping

  • 1 puff pastry sheet, thawed
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 3 tbsp melted butter, divided
  • 2 tbsp honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F to ensure it’s hot enough for the puff pastry to rise and crisp perfectly.
  2. Prepare Apples: Peel and slice the apples very thinly. In a small bowl, toss the apple slices with 2 tablespoons of melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and sea salt until evenly coated.
  3. Prepare Pastry Base: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay the thawed puff pastry sheet on top. Using a sharp knife, lightly score a one-inch border around the pastry’s edge without cutting all the way through; this allows the edges to puff up while keeping apple juices contained.
  4. Dock Pastry: Prick the center area of the scored puff pastry with a fork to prevent excessive puffing in this section. Brush the border with the remaining tablespoon of melted butter for color and flavor.
  5. Arrange Apples: Place the spiced apple slices on the puff pastry inside the scored border. Arrange in three even rows or any decorative pattern you prefer to create an attractive tart.
  6. Bake Tart: Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, monitoring closely after 15 minutes. Look for puffed and golden brown edges as the tart finishes baking.
  7. Finish and Serve: Remove the tart from the oven and gently brush the apple topping with honey to add shine and extra sweetness. If needed, microwave honey for 15 seconds to thin before brushing. Allow to cool several minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed before assembling for best puff and texture.
  • Use thin apple slices to ensure even cooking and softness.
  • Scoring the border is key to keeping juices inside and achieving a beautifully puffed edge.
  • Honey topping is optional but adds a lovely glaze and depth of sweetness.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature for best flavor.
