- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
- ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
Cooking Oil
- 1-2 tablespoons olive oil
Optional Sauce
- Remoulade sauce: mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, capers, horseradish (quantities to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the seasoning mix: In a mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, paprika, Cajun seasoning, salt, cayenne pepper, cumin, thyme, black pepper, and onion powder. Mix thoroughly to create a uniform spice blend.
- Coat the shrimp: Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the bowl with the seasoning mix. Toss the shrimp until each piece is evenly coated with the spice mixture, ensuring full flavor coverage.
- Heat the skillet: Place a skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 to 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Allow the oil to warm until it shimmers but does not smoke to achieve the perfect sear.
- Cook the shrimp: Lay the seasoned shrimp in a single layer in the hot skillet. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes on the first side until the bottoms are charred and the shrimp begin to turn pink. Flip each shrimp and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until fully pink and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove the shrimp from the skillet immediately to prevent overcooking. Serve hot with remoulade sauce for dipping or alongside your favorite sides.
