Description

Delicious and easy-to-make roast beef sliders featuring King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls layered with tender deli roast beef, melted provolone cheese, and a flavorful buttery sauce with dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire. Perfect for gatherings or game day, these sliders bake to golden perfection with gooey cheese and a tantalizing savory topping.

Ingredients

Scale

Rolls and Meat

  • 18 King’s Hawaiian brand sweet rolls (from two 12-count packages)
  • 1- pounds deli sliced roast beef (no more than inch thick or sandwich sliced)

Cheese and Condiments

  • 10 slices non-smoked provolone cheese (approximately inch thick, from an 8-ounce package)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

Sauce

  • ½ cup salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1½ tablespoons bottled barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s Original used)
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seed
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the sliders evenly.
  2. Prepare the Rolls: Slice the King’s Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, separating tops from bottoms. Arrange all bottom halves closely in a 9×13-inch baking pan so they touch, and set the tops aside for later.
  3. Spread Mayonnaise: Apply a thin, even layer of mayonnaise on each bottom roll in the baking dish to add moisture and flavor.
  4. Add Roast Beef: Layer 1-2 slices of deli roast beef on each bottom roll, folding slices as needed to fit. This will help in easy separation after baking.
  5. Layer Cheese and Top Rolls: Evenly distribute provolone cheese slices over the roast beef, then place the roll tops on each slider. Gently press down to secure them together for consistent heating.
  6. Make the Sauce: Melt salted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.
  7. Coat the Sliders: Pour the warm buttery sauce evenly over the assembled sliders. Optionally, use a pastry brush to spread poppy seeds on the tops for extra flavor and visual appeal.
  8. Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil to trap steam and heat. Bake for 20 minutes to warm through and melt cheese.
  9. Finish Baking: Remove foil and bake an additional 5-10 minutes until the tops are lightly browned and cheese is fully melted. Remove from oven and serve warm.

Notes

  • Folding the roast beef slices helps fit them nicely on the rolls and makes slider separation easier.
  • Using King’s Hawaiian rolls gives these sliders a sweet contrast to the savory beef and sauce.
  • The buttery sauce with poppy seeds and Worcestershire adds a distinctive tang and richness.
  • Covering the sliders tightly while baking helps melt cheese evenly and keeps rolls soft.
  • Be careful not to overbake to avoid drying out the rolls or beef.
