Ingredients
Scale
Rolls and Meat
- 18 King’s Hawaiian brand sweet rolls (from two 12-count packages)
- 1-1¼ pounds deli sliced roast beef (no more than ⅛ inch thick or sandwich sliced)
Cheese and Condiments
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 10 slices non-smoked provolone cheese (approximately ⅛ inch thick, from an 8-ounce package)
Butter Sauce
- ½ cup salted butter
- 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
- 1½ tablespoons bottled barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s Original used)
- 1 tablespoon poppy seed
- 1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders evenly.
- Prepare Rolls: Slice the King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls in half, separating the tops from the bottoms. Place all the bottom halves tightly in a 9×13 inch baking pan so they touch. Keep the tops aside for now.
- Spread Mayonnaise: Evenly spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the bottom rolls inside the baking pan.
- Add Roast Beef: Layer 1 to 2 slices of the thinly sliced roast beef on each roll bottom, folding as needed to fit the meat snugly on the slider base. This ensures easy pulling apart after baking.
- Top with Cheese and Rolls: Place slices of provolone cheese evenly over the roast beef. Then cover each piece with the reserved roll tops, gently pressing down to secure all slider layers for even heating.
- Make Butter Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the salted butter. Stir in dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, poppy seeds, and worcestershire sauce. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the sauce just reaches a boil, then remove from heat.
- Apply Sauce: Pour the warm butter sauce evenly over the assembled sliders. Optionally, use a pastry brush to spread the poppy seeds over the tops of the rolls for an even coating.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes so the flavors meld and cheese melts.
- Finish Baking: Remove the foil and bake an additional 5 to 10 minutes until the tops are lightly browned and the cheese is fully melted, then remove from the oven.
Notes
- Use very thinly sliced roast beef for easy folding and a better slider texture.
- King’s Hawaiian rolls provide a perfect sweetness that balances the savory beef and tangy sauce.
- You can prepare these sliders in advance and refrigerate them before baking to save time on serving day.
- Adjust barbecue sauce quantity to your taste preference for sweetness or tanginess.
- For an extra kick, add a few dashes of hot sauce into the butter mixture before pouring.
