Ingredients
Scale
Phyllo Cups
- 20 sheets phyllo dough, thawed
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
Nut Filling
- 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Toppings
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios (optional, for garnish)
- 12 whole pecans (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Tin: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Phyllo Sheets: Cut the thawed phyllo sheets into 3×3 inch squares. Cover them with a damp towel to keep them from drying out as you work.
- Layer Phyllo in Muffin Cups: Place 5 phyllo squares in each muffin cup, offsetting them to form a star shape. Brush each layer generously with melted butter to create a crisp, golden texture.
- Make the Nut Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped pecans, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well mixed.
- Fill Phyllo Cups: Spoon about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the nut filling into each phyllo-lined muffin cup, pressing gently to compact the mixture.
- Bake the Baklava Cups: Bake in the preheated oven for 18–22 minutes or until the phyllo is golden brown and crisp.
- Cool and Add Caramel: Let the baklava cups cool for 10 minutes. Then drizzle each with caramel sauce for a rich, sweet finish.
- Garnish: Optionally, sprinkle chopped pistachios over the caramel and top each cup with a whole pecan for added crunch and decoration.
- Serve: These baklava cups can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature for maximum flavor and texture.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month to maintain freshness.
Notes
- Keep the phyllo sheets covered with a damp towel to prevent them from drying out while assembling.
- Using melted unsalted butter ensures the phyllo crisps up nicely without overpowering the flavors.
- Feel free to substitute pecans with walnuts if preferred.
- For an extra touch, add a pinch of nutmeg to the nut filling.
- Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert experience.
